Paper Table designs, manufactures, and markets a line of tableware products that are environmentally friendly, affordable, and add a stylish flair to the dining experience. Taking inspiration primarily from nature and 20th Century graphics, its original designs range from floral to geometric with a contemporary twist. Its products are waterproof, tear proof, made from tree-free paper, and are 100% recyclable. The sophisticated line includes colorful and decorative placemats, coasters, and napkins.
When it came time to decide on packaging the challenge was to find suitable packaging that would maintain and support the presentation of the Paper Table products. The Bedford, New York, company also sought packaging that would reinforce the product brand throughout the useful life of the product through storage and protection of the decorative placemats and coasters. Paper Table founder, Robin Simon (an experienced painter), sought many different packaging options. It wasn’t until Sonia Biancalani-Levethan, her graphic designer and partner, showed her Univenture materials included in Package Design magazine’s The Designer’s Tool Box, that she was introduced to Univenture packaging solutions.
Naturally, she contacted Univenture’s sales and product design team.
The solution was a customized EnvyPak™ envelope. It proved to be an excellent choice on several fronts. One of the EnvyPak product line’s advantages is the capability to provide many size variations with decorative print for branding with very minimal tooling and design costs. New product design flexibility allowed Paper Table to keep the costs down, yet it could still make the necessary alterations it wanted. The finished packages include re-sealable tape, allowing users of the Paper Table products to store the product in its original protective package. The protective EnvyPak package also was custom printed with Paper Table’s company name and logo along the protective seal area. This branding extends the value of the package by keeping the company’s name in front of the customer.
The fact that the EnvyPak packaging is 100% recyclable is also important. “Since my products are recyclable, it is very important to my marketing plans to have my packaging recyclable, too,” commented Simon.
The result was a cohesive packaging solution that complemented Paper Table’s products perfectly. The matching Univenture packaging was used for Paper Table’s placemats and coasters.
“The EnvyPak envelope provides us with a modern, unique look that emphasizes the style of our products,” said Simon. “The transparent package is sturdy enough to hold the mats and coasters, while providing maximum visibility for the products.”
The new Paper Table products – in their EnvyPak™ Envelope – made their debut to much excitement at the January 2007 New York International Gift Fair. About the reaction to the packaging, Simon stated, “Everybody liked the look of the packaging, but most importantly, I think, it subliminally said, ‘This is a professional company that has paid attention to all of the details.’”
As to her overall impressions of working with Univenture, Simon said, “Univenture seems to thrive on the challenge of creating innovative packaging for each company it works with.”
