Applied Graphics:

Applique

Using a custom die to apply, cut, and seal, pieces of colored material to the surface of another, effectively raising the finished artwork above the base layer.

Clear Overlay/Entrapment

A clear layer of film on the outside allows the insertion of a printed cover sheet.  Entrapment completely seals the insert into the product.

Debossing

Using heat and pressure, a die presses a graphic into the surface of the product.

Foil Stamping

Using dies, heat, pressure, and colored foils, graphics are applied to the surface producing a shiny design.

Full-color Printing

Single to full-color graphics can be flexo, litho, or screen printed, directly on most of our products.

Screen Printing

Using color-separated artwork, a screen is created for each separate color and used to apply opaque ink to the product.

 

Manufacturing & Printing Options:

+/- Safety-sleeve® material

All standard products offer Safety-sleeve®, non-woven material for optimal disc protection. Most products can also be ordered without it.

Matte/glossy

All Safety-sleeve® products can be constructed with either a matte or glossy look.

+/- Pockets

Many products can be constructed with additional pockets for graphics or discs. In most cases, products shown with graphic pockets can also be manufactured without graphic pockets.

Tamper Resistant

Products providing security, theft deterrent and authenticity features, through a design that incorporates perforated tabs or windows, that indicates if the package has been opened or accessed.

Adhesive backing

Most sleeve products are available with a full peel and stick adhesive backing.

Hole spacing

Options include 3.13" standard hole spacing to fit 2-ring binders, A4 binders and UniKeep™ Disc Wallets. Our 4.25" hole spacing fits standard 3-ring binders. Additional options are available.

Removable Pages

For greater flexibility, we offer Safety-sleeve® pages that can be added or removed from binders and wallets.

Non-removable Pages

Includes glue, rivets, and post & screw options. Additional products may be designed for butterfly insert packs or may have tabs for inserting sleeves.

 

Glossary:

Archival Modified Jewelpak™

A Jewelpak style sleeve containing an additional layer of Safety-sleeve® material to protect both sides of the disc.

Archival Pocket

A simple sleeve containing multiple layers of Safety-sleeve® material to protect both sides of the disc.

Biodegradable Polypropylene

A Degradable Plastic is defined (ASTM 1991) as a plastic that is designed to undergo a significant change in its chemical structure under specific environmental conditions resulting in a loss of some properties that may vary as measured by standard test methods appropriate to the plastic and the application in a period of time that determines its classification. A Biodegradable Plastic is defined as a degradable plastic in which the degradation results from the action of naturally occurring microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae.

Plastic samples, have been tested by independent laboratories in accordance with standard test methods approved by ASTM, ISO and other such standardization bodies to determine the rate and extent of biodegradation of plastic materials.

The biodegradation of the submitted plastic samples was tested using the following standardized methods:

  • ASTM D5209-91, "Standard Test Method for Determining the Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials in the Presence of Municipal Sewage Sludge",
  • ASTM D5338.98, "Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials under Controlled Composting Conditions", which is equivalent to CEN prEN WI 261085,
  • ISO 14855 method, "Evaluation of the Ultimate Aerobic Biodegradability and Disintegration of Plastics under Controlled Composting Conditions",
  • ASTM 5511, "Standard Test Method for Determining Anaerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials Under High-Solids Anaerobic Digestion Conditions".

The result of these tests and the related biodegradation and ecological impact experiments in various environments certifies that plastic products manufactured with ECM additives can be marketed as biodegradable and safe for the environment.

Corrugated

Boxes made from brown cardboard material that is scored for folding. Characteristic of board for boxes made by sandwiching fluted kraft paper between sheets of paper or cardboard.

EnvyPak™

Window envelopes and pouches providing 100% coverage and full visibility of contents. Featuring exclusive Dark Weld™ technology, to ensure materials remain crisp. Complete printing services available on all materials including interior. Available in two formats. Our paper/poly format features dense EnvyPak paper layer and a clear poly window layer. Our clear/clear format features dual layers of clear poly.

JewelPak™

Called a Jewelpak because of its original dimensions that mirrored a Jewelcase, the Jewelpak features a patented lift-up window style page providing effortless access to the disc. The incorporation of a graphic pocket and a spine column for indexing or labeling is also included.

MultiPak™

A series of disc sleeves support multiple discs and graphics, which can be customized to accommodate from 2 to 20 discs. Often made up of Viewpak or lift-up window sleeve style pages.

EarthFirst® PLA (polylactic acid) Film

Bags, sleeves, and pockets, can be made from this film. This clear EarthFirst® PLA plastic film is produced by Plastic Suppliers, Inc. utilizing Ingeo™ polymer, an environmentally friendly annually renewable film produced from plants, that presents a viable alternative to traditional petroleum-based materials. It is also certified compostable by the ASTM D6400 and DIN EN13432 standards at appropriate facilities.

Polypropylene(PP)

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer, used in a wide variety of products. When used in our sleeve applications, polypropylene is forty percent lighter in weight than comparable sleeves. This allows for substantially lower shipping cost. Polypropylene is also resistant to chemical attack, offers a wider temperature range and a choice material used for long-term archival needs. Polypropylene is 100% recyclable.

PVC

Polyvinylcholride (PVC) is a widely used plastic. Traditional clear vinyl material is longwearing and durable. The characteristics and look of vinyl give our products a higher perceived value than other comparable materials. Vinyl also offers flexibility in designing sleeves for specific customer requirements.

Solid Bleached Sulfate(SBS)

SBS (paperboard) is a heavy layered paper intended to be a rigid, durable form of paper used in packaging.

Safety-sleeve®(SS)

Safety-sleeve® material is exclusive to our sleeve product line. The Safety-sleeve fibers actually suspend the disc above the material while allowing small dirt and debris to fall to its base and become trapped away from the disc surface. Safety-sleeves® also eliminates much of the risk of damage that can occur with other types of packaging. The characteristics and look give our Safety-sleeve® products a higher perceived value than other comparable materials.

Tyvek®

Made from very fine, high-density polyethylene fibers, Tyvek® brand protective material offers characteristics of paper, film, and fabric, in one material.

UniKeep™

UniKeep™ branded wallets or binders, which feature patented integrated rings, and are excellent for organization and presentation.

Vacuum Form(VF)

Vacuum forming is a technique that is used to shape or form a variety of plastics. Vacuum forming is used when an unusual shape like a ‘dish’ or box-like shape is needed.

ViewPak™

A single disc sleeve containing Safety-sleeve® material and a clear flap to allow visibility of the disc. The Viewpak style window contains a pocket with a deep V-cut to allow for effortless access of the disc from the sleeve. The Viewpak contains a pocket behind the disc to accommodate a graphic insert.

ViewPak XG™

Similar to the Viewpak, the Viewpak XG incorporates a clear pocket on the clear flap to accommodate an additional graphic.

 

Media Formats:

Our products are engineered and designed to protect the following media formats:

Blu-ray(Recordable)

A high-capacity rewritable optical disc that holds two hours of high-definition video or 12 hours of standard video.

CD-Audio(Prerecorded)

An optical disc, read by lasers, containing prerecorded music.

CD-R(Recordable)

CD-ROM recording systems can be used to record data onto a compact disc-recordable like any other recordable media. However, they cannot be erased and re-recorded.

CD-ROM (Prerecorded)

An index or reference work that is prerecorded on a compact disc and accessed through a computer.

CD-RW (Recordable)

A CD-RW disc can be rewritten over a thousand times and read on MultiRead CD-ROM compatible Audio CD players.

DVD (Prerecorded)

“Digital Versatile Disc” (Formerly Digital Video Disc). Same size as a CD but contains seven times CD capacity on a single side. DVDs can also be double-sided or dual layer.

DVD-R (Recordable)

Optical disc capable of having data written onto it once. Much larger capacity than CD-R.

DVD-RW (Recordable)

A rewritable DVD disc.

Optical Disc

A direct access disc written and read by light. CD, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and DVD-Video are read-only optical discs that are recorded at the time of manufacture and cannot be erased. CD-R and DVD-R discs are write-once. They are recorded in the user’s environment, but cannot be erased. CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and MO discs are rewritable.
